The Partnership Problem
Most technology projects fail not because of bad technology, but because of bad partnerships. A vendor who cannot communicate clearly, does not understand your business model, or disappears after the contract is signed will cost you far more than their invoice suggests.
Choosing the right technology partner is one of the most consequential decisions a growing business can make. Here is a framework we recommend to every prospective client.
Evaluate Communication First
Before you evaluate technical capability, evaluate communication. How quickly do they respond to your initial inquiry? How clearly do they explain complex concepts? Do they ask smart questions about your business, or do they jump straight to proposing solutions?
A technology partner who communicates poorly in the sales process will communicate poorly during delivery. This is almost never an exception.
Look for Business Understanding, Not Just Technical Skill
The best technology partners are business people who happen to build software — not software engineers who occasionally talk to clients. They should be able to explain how their proposed solution will impact your revenue, your operations, and your customer experience.
Ask About Post-Launch Support
Many vendors are excellent at building and terrible at supporting. Ask specifically about their post-launch support model: response times, escalation paths, maintenance processes, and how they handle bugs discovered after delivery.
At Maximus Technologies, every software project includes a defined support and maintenance agreement. We do not consider a project complete until it is running reliably in production and your team is fully trained on how to use it.
